Formed in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, in 1994, extreme metal band Sevendust originally comprised Lajon Witherspoon (vocals), Morgan Rose (drums), Vince Hornsby (bass) and Clint Lowery (guitar) and John Connolly (guitar). All were previously members of sundry local rock outfits, with Witherspoon recruited from a local bar blues/funk rock outfit, Said Rose. The quintet first became Crawlspace then Sevendust, recruiting former Twisted Sister member Jay Jay French as manager and signing to TVT Records (formerly home to Nine Inch Nails). A self-titled debut album followed in 1997. Buoyed by strong radio play and an intensive touring schedule throughout America, it hit the number 1 spot in the US metal charts and stayed there for 12 weeks. A small tour of England, sponsored by Kerrang! magazine, ensued.
