1974, New Hampshire, USA. It is astonishing that Ray LaMontagne ever became a musician at all. He spent his early adult life avoiding any associations with his father, a Nashville musician who deserted his family when LaMontagne was aged four. It was a tough life as his mother and her children moved frequently, sometimes sleeping out in cars or tents.
