A loud but melodious US alternative punk band, New Bomb Turks’ manifesto was to rid their genre of its more dour concerns, re-establishing the sheer adrenaline rush and hedonism of the music. They met while studying at Ohio State University, where each of the members - Eric Davidson (vocals), Jim Weber (guitar), Matt Reber (bass) and Bill Randt (drums) - read English. They first worked together as disc jockeys on campus radio station WSOR, gradually pulling together as a band and making their debut through a series of limited-issue 7-inch singles on the Datapanik label. It was with their 1992 debut album, however, that their arrival was recognized, with Maximum Rock ‘n’ Roll magazine calling it the ‘album of the year, maybe of the last five years’.
