Tenetira Michelle Williams, 23 July 1980, Rockford, Illinois, USA. Best known as a member of Destiny’s Child, vocalist Williams was first a backing singer for other recording artists, before joining the aforementioned, chart-topping soul pop group. Although she sang with artists such as R&B vocalist Monica, Williams’ musical background was in the church, appearing on recordings by several gospel-orientated artists. When Destiny’s Child was experiencing some friction between its band members (shortly after the dawn of the twenty-first century) and were looking for replacement members, Monica’s dance choreographer recommended Williams to Destiny’s Child manager, Mathew Knowles.
