Biography

6 June 1939, Utrecht, the Netherlands. The son of composer Hendrik Andriessen, Louis writes some of the most forbidding minimalist music, and has inspired some of the most accessible. He studied under his father at Utrecht Conservatory, under Kees van Baaren at the Royal Conservatory in the Hague (where he won the composition prize in 1962) and finally with Luciano Berio in Milan and Berlin during 1964/5.
