Biography
John Carl Hendricks, 16 September 1921, Newark, Ohio, USA. Although he studied law, Hendricks was drawn to jazz and worked as a drummer and singer while still at college. An engagement with Charlie ‘Bird’ Parker prompted a move into full-time music. Hendricks wrote lyrics to solos created by jazzmen, a form of singing which has never been overcrowded with skilled practitioners.
