This German DJ project assembles the diverse talents of Jürgen von Knoblauch, Alexander Barck, Claas Brieler, Stefan Leisering, Axel Reinemer and Roskow Kretschmann. The name, a hybrid of jazz and bossa nova, suggests a free form of music, combining as it does a deep jazz style with real dance music beats.

Formed in 1995, the Berlin-based outfit established a cult following wooed by their willingness to experiment, illustrated in remixes of carefully selected artists. Von Knoblauch, Barck and Brieler provided the DJing force within Jazzanova, with producers Leisering and Reinemer (the duo Extended Spirit) and Kretschmann (aka Kosma) completing the sextet. DJ Gilles Peterson contributed to the collectives’ recognition, playing their first track, ‘Fedime’s Flight’, on his radio show in 1997.
