Formed in October 2002 by close friends Brooke Gallupe (18 August 1981, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; guitar/vocals, ex-Reactions), Kathryn Calder (b. 17 June 1982, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; keyboards/vocals, ex-Reactions) and Luke Kozlowski (b. 19 November 1980, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; drums/vocals, ex-Reactions) this tight-knit Canadian indie pop trio took their name from a line in Paul Simon’s 1980 track ‘One Trick Pony’. In a similar way to fellow Canadians Shapes And Sizes, their seemingly carefree, oddball approach to music making was viewed by some critics as throwaway; but there was often an underlying hint of intelligent political statement in their material. After the band received a positive reaction to two self-issued records and two Canadian tours, they were spurred on to book themselves a gruelling series of gigs across the USA in early 2005.
