Paris, France. The daughter of violinist Jean-Luc Ponty, Clara moved to Los Angeles, California, at the age of four. Classically trained on violin and piano, she studied at Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, the Maryland Conservatory, and the University of Southern California. Eschewing the classical route, Ponty’s interest in songwriting led her to a contract with the Phillips Classics label. Her self-titled debut album was released in 1997 and featured 11 original instrumental tracks that blended classical, jazz, pop and world styles into a sensuous whole. Both this album and the 1999 follow-up, The Embrace, received good reviews from critics in both the classical and new age press, who were also enamoured by Ponty’s inspiring live shows. Her third album, 2004’s Mirror Of Truth, was inspired by time spent performing in India, and recalled the world music experiments embraced by her father during his career.
