Total Devastation Biography

Three-piece rap crew from California, composed of lead rapper Rasta Red Eye (Puerto Rica), lyricist Soopa Dupa (b. Cuba) and DJ Tuf Cut Tim The Fat Beat Maker (b. Mexico). Their home turf is nicknamed ‘The Mission’, a tightly knit Hispanic community within San Francisco. Although they all grew up in the neighbourhood, it was not until a New Year’s Eve Party in 1988 that they discovered they shared the same musical tastes. Together they created Hogstatus, a fully blown production company, in anticipation of their forthcoming career. Eventually PGA Records picked up on their demos, releasing their debut single, ‘Many Clouds Of Smoke’, in 1993. Selling over 60, 000 copies in California alone, its pro-marijuana lyric did not dissuade major label Arista from taking an interest.
