Philip Claypool Biography

Memphis, Tennessee, USA. Raised in Memphis, Claypool’s traditional approach to country songwriting has won him many admirers since he made his debut for Curb Records in 1995. Claypool’s mother had played organ in church, and her influence bred an increasing interest in traditional and roots music that led him through gospel, folk and blues to bluegrass and country. He was already writing his own songs during his high school and college years, after which he settled in Nashville. His debut album, A Circus Leaving Town, was produced by Jerry Crutchfield and included singles such as ‘The Strength Of A Woman’ and the title track, rated by many as the best song he had written so far. He returned in 1999 with the largely self-written and self-produced Perfect World.
