Author-Signed Edition! While supplies last, all purchases of Doo Wop: The Music, The Times, The Era include a bookplate hand-signed by "Cousin Brucie"!
"Cousin Brucie" has been one of the most famous names in broadcasting for almost half a century, and was one of the pioneer radio personalities behind doo wop and rock 'n' roll. His amazing career started at New York's WINS, and continued with stations like WABC, WCBS-FM and currently, Sirius Satellite Radio.
Doo Wop: The Music, The Times, The Era is a beautiful, over-sized (9-7/8" X 11-1/2") hardcover book.
With abundant background and enticing images, Doo Wop: The Music, The Times, The Era covers way more than just the gorgeous harmonies of the unforgettable doo wop groups. The 50's were rich in cultural events and iconic performances, and this landmark volume traces the development of the music, politics, art, architecture, and popular culture throughout this exciting and remarkable period. Each chapter delves into one or more years and focuses on the transformative events of the day. You'll meet the pioneers who started it all, including bands like The Drifters; discover how the songs we love emerged from African rhythms and culture; see Marlon Brando roar in to transform squeaky-clean youth in The Wild One; look at the 50s sex symbols, like Bardot and Monroe; and watch the music - and America - grow up. The pages teem with archival photography, posters, album covers, newspaper articles, magazine covers, lyrics, and more. Lavish illustrations with duotone and full-color imagery carry readers back in time so they'll enjoy a deep understanding of our musical and cultural history.

Includes a foreword by Neil Sedaka, and an introduction by TJ Lubinsky.

I went to three different bookstores (Barnes & Noble) to try to find this book. None of them had it in-stock, and they didn't know when they were getting it. I ordered on a Monday, and Oldies.com had it in my hands on Wednesday. The free doo wop CD and bookplate were a neat addition - both of which weren't offered elsewhere.
Exceeded my expectations!

Boy, was I surprised.
I expected a well-written book on the subject by the man who was there.
What I got was a gorgeous coffee table book with great color, photos and information.
If you love doo-wop - this book is for you!

A Must!

Great resource, fun read, and a signed bookplate - what could be better?
I've been a fan (for more than four decades) of both the music and the man who played it for us.
Oldies.com sent the package quickly and well packed -
good job!
Heard about this book on his radio show
Customer: Thomas Flanetti from New York City -- November, 3, 2007
I heard Cousin Brucie mention his new book on his radio show on Sirius. I called both Barnes & Noble and Borders stores near me...and both didn't have the book. Ordered thru Oldies.com and had it in my hands in three days. Also was signed by Brucie, nice touch. Thanks, Oldies!
Surprised
Customer: Raymond Clark from New Haven, CT -- October, 26, 2007
I bought two copies - one for me, one for a Christmas gift for a friend. I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised that Cousin Brucie put a different handwritten message on each bookplate. That's right, not just a signature! I also like the fact that the bookplate wasn't affixed to the book... Very pleased with my purchase.
What an awesome book
Customer: Robert McMillan from Bronx, NY USA -- October, 26, 2007
The picture here is somewhat deceiving. This book is huge... coffeetable-book huge. Beautifully designed, and some great pictures that I've never seen before. The signed is a nice touch. I've listened to Cousin Brucie for years on WCBS, and I'm glad to see he's still keeping our memories of this great time alive. Love you, Bruce.
