Description by

When Lowell George died in 1979 at the age of just 34 the rock world lost a unique slide-guitar stylist and one of its most talented songwriters. Rock and Roll Doctor is the first book to tell his story. It looks at George on the Los Angeles underground scene of the 1960s, with Frank Zappa and The Standells, and examines his role as a founding member of Little Feat, one of the great American rock bands of the 1970s. It also covers his brief solo career, and his extensive but little-known work as a producer and session musician for artists as diverse as John Cale, The Grateful Dead, Carly Simon, and Harry Nilsson.
