Krazy Kat became a comic strip in its own right in 1913, making its debut in William Randolph Hearst's New York Evening Journal. For thirty-one years, until Herriman's death in 1944, the Kat and her tireless tormenter; Ignatz Mouse, counted among their fans some of the leading writers, artists, composers, and intellectuals of the time. The authors have collected over one hundred fifty comic strips for this book, most of them the original drawings. Forty-eight of the Krazy Kat Sunday color cartoons are reproduced here, some of them hand-colored by the artist, as well as never-before-published drawings, archival photographs, and personal letters.
