Named after their biggest hit, this best-of collects the classic 1950s R&B vocal group the Robins' best-known recordings for songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller's Spark label. As well as ""Smokey Joe's Cafe," the collection features the group's signature raw vocal sound, assisted by a gritty R&B combo, on songs like "Riot in Cell Block #9" (the song that inspired the title of Sly Stone's seminal early-'70s "There's A Riot Goin'" On album), the sardonic "Framed," and the slightly risque "The Hatchet Man," all of which highlight their raucous, good-natured musicality and Leiber and Stoller's impressive songwriting talents.
