What at first announces itself as an homage to the Takoma school of 12-string acoustics quickly reveals its true identity as master musical thesis in mood manipulation and the adaptive possibilities of a singular instrument. SUNSHRINE isn't an album or a single, really. Marketable compartmentalizing defeats the purpose of its 26-minute-plus title track (the only other song being the sublime three-minute come-down of "Skylark Herald's Dawn"), which ripples with wordless, flawless fluidity through unending permutations on blues guitar, as translated through majestic excursions into classical beauty. It is a half hour on which one hopes the sun indeed never sets.
