Good Country Retrospective

Stonewall Jackson is one of those often overlooked and kind of forgotten country singers who actually had a number of big hits, but has never gotten the recognition for his place in country music that he truly deserves. Many of these songs are true classics, such as Waterloo, BJ the DJ, Life To Go, and I Washed My Hands In Muddy Water. Understand...I'm not a huge Stonewall Jackson fan trying to boost his legacy in country music...but many of these songs are simply good songs, delivered in a solid country style that is quickly disappearing in today's cookie cutter country music world. If you want a solid collection of great traditional country tunes, or simply want to add another strong piece of the country history puzzle to your CD list, this disc will make a very fine addition.

Stonewall Jackson does not sound like anyone else. He has a strong clear voice and this album contains some of his best-known tracks (Waterloo, BJ the DJ and A Wound Time Can't Erase). For people who like old-time traditional country music, this is a good album to add to the collection.
As a side note, if they decide to reissue any of his old Columbia albums on CD, my vote woould be for I Love a Song. That album was the source for the cuts BJ the DJ and A Wound Time Can't Erase and contains several cuts better than the ones on this compilation album.
