Product Description:

Al Bernard Big Three: Al Bernard (bass); Brian Ogilvie (tenor saxophone, clarinet); Richard Fleming (piano).
Personnel: Richard Fleming (piano).
Recording information: 2000.
Although bassist Al Bernard gets first billing on this trio set, Brian Ogilivie (on clarinet and tenor) is usually the lead voice. With pianist Richard Fleming contributing fine swing piano, the group swings their way through a dozen veteran standards plus their own "Big Three Blues." Among the highlights are "S' Wonderful," "Rosetta," "Pennies From Heaven," and "All the Things You Are." The music is similar to what one might have heard on a Zoot Sims record, style-crossing music that falls between swing and bop with touches of hard bop and even Dixieland heard in spots. A fine effort. ~ Scott Yanow
