It seemed that back in the Forties the Americans had everything that the other side of the Atlantic didn t. They had nylons, chewing gum, the jitterbug, Lana Turner and music to make you sit up and take notice. And what music. But what goes without saying is that when it came to harmony groups there was no comparison. Who could compare with the Merry Macs, The Modernaires and above all the superb Pied Pipers? The Pied Pipers were voted Top Vocal Group in Downbeat Magazine s annual poll every year from 1944 to1949.The Pied Pipers were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2001. We, and doubtless those of you playing this set, wonder why it took so long!!
