Dirty Linen - pp.90-91
"Cavaliere's voice has aged and become a bit ragged, but his technique and control still allow for enough Rascally tinges, and he also delivers tons of lush B-3 organ."
Living Blues - p.56
"The slow, deeply funky 'Full Moon Tonight' is the bluesiest of the bunch, filled with hammered John Lee Hooker-like trills, stinging solo lines, and the type of bent and repeated notes that have long been Cropper trademarks."
Clash (magazine) (p.112) - "Taking in some unexpected influences along the way, this shows that old soul brothers never retire -- they mature."

Individually, Steve Cropper and Felix Cavaliere are 1960s legends, remembered as the guitarist for the Stax Records house band and the singer/keyboardist for the Rascals, respectively. Together, on NUDGE IT UP A NOTCH, they match each other step for soulful step. As you might expect, there are plenty of Stax-style grooves, and no shortage of tasty guitar and organ work, but Cropper and Cavaliere never go for an overtly retro sound; a number of tunes sport reggae rhythms, and album-closer "Make the Time Go Faster" even has some hip-hop flavor.
