Product Description:

Includes Liner Notes by Rocky Petralia.
Cut the Cake & Other Hits, the umpteenth Average White Band compilation, is part of Rhino's budget-line Flashback series of discs, so it contains only ten tracks and provides a decent -- if by no means definitive -- overview of the band's career. That it uses a live version of the band's biggest hit -- "Pick Up the Pieces," recorded at Montreux -- automatically puts it out of the running as an ideal introduction, and quite a few significant singles and album cuts are left off as well. It does, however, contain well-known highlights like "Soul Searching," "Work to Do," and -- of course -- "Cut the Cake." ~ Andy Kellman
