This is a continuous in-the-mix CD compiled and mixed by DJ Irene.
After 1998, which showed DJ Irene stretched out on no less than four mix albums, many gave up on her for religiously stooping to the lowest common denominator practices of the hardcore scene. In a way, they had a point -- hard house is one of the simplest genres to mix properly, and Irene would often just beat match everything into a bland paste and toss in the odd sample. Global House Diva, conversely, gets released inside a new phase in her career, where the beats still sound like a shoe banging inside an empty, plutonium-powered dryer, yet still flexible enough to let her insert nods to old favorites and new parenthetical gasps for air. The Sex Fiend, Originator, New Vision, and even inept, early-'90s rave gems like "James Brown Is Dead" are compiled with a rare familiarity and fondness. No doubt, even with 37 tracks in an hour, she's hardly Coldcut, but this L.A. based, post-Disney incarnation is a treat for historically clued-up hard house fans. ~ Dean Carlson
