Liner Note Author: Roland Doucet.
This collection carries the usual CSP Records lineup, with tracks by Van Broussard, Crosscut, Mike Broussard, Kenny Fife, and others of like kindred, and if the songs presented here do little to clear up exactly what swamp pop is, they do rock. Without getting into what modern swamp pop is or isn't (it seems to be New Orleans R&B crossed with 1950s rock & roll, with a few sprinkles of country and Memphis soul tossed in, plus a heavy dose of horn-driven zydeco), this sixth sampler from CSP seems to prove out the old adage that even if you don't know how to explain it, you'll damn well know it when you hear it. Among the more striking tracks this time around are Crosscut's "Crosscut Saw," Van Broussard's "Since I Met You Baby," and a pair of gems from Preston Blanchard, the breakneck-paced "Little Bitty Pretty One" and the zydeco-tinged "Louisiana." ~ Steve Leggett
