As the godfather of go-go, Chuck Brown has few competitors. One of Washington, D.C.'s best-kept secrets, Brown essentially jump-started the scene known as go-go in the 1970s, and his high-energy, big-band funk sound and endless live shows epitomized the genre. Since Chuck Brown is best experienced live, however, finding satisfying studio recordings can prove challenging.
The double-disc BEST OF CHUCK BROWN solves that problem once and for all by offering a superbly selected compilation that covers the expanse of Brown's prolific career. Well engineered and bursting with irrepressible grooves, BEST OF stretches back to his early '70s tracks (including, of course, Brown's signature track, "Bustin' Loose") and continues into the 2000s. Overall, the package is a first-class funk motherlode.
