A stellar effort except for the weak metronome-style drum programming. Where's Willie Hall (Memphis drummer) when you need him? J. Blackfoot's rings true, however, as he crushes 11 hook-laden songs in both his natural tenor and a shivering hoarse falsetto. Frisky, commercial mid-tempo numbers like "Show Me" and "Put a Little Something Down on It," deserve a wider audience. The dramatic ballad "I've Been Having an Affair" is classic Blackfoot. He administers a southern soul whipping to Gregory Abbott's "Shake You Down" and redoes Isaac Hayes and David Porter's "I'll Understand," a tune he originally cut with the Soul Children. ~ Andrew Hamilton
