First released in 1970 to capitalize on the success of Johnny Cash's ABC TV show, HELLO, I'M JOHNNY CASH features highlights of the singer's 1960s output, from the novelty song "The One on the Right Is on the Left" and the "Ring of Fire" soundalike "Rosanna's Going Wild," to more weighty material, like Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" and Pete LaFarge's "The Ballad of Ira Hayes." In a well-rounded and entertaining set, there's also the gospel-oriented "Daddy Sang Bass," as well as several of Cash's own compositions, including the darkly humorous, autobiographical "Five Feet High and Rising," and the song that was to become his anthem, the socially conscious "Man in Black."
