By any standard, the Serbian-born scientist-cum-inventor Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) was a man with a vision light years ahead of its time. It may stun modern man, for instance, to learn that Tesla conceived of wireless energy, green power and remote controls decades before any of those concepts became en vogue. As a result of his prescience, Tesla made an enduring impact on contemporary technology, and many of his concepts were still being widely used at the dawn of the 21st Century. As produced by - and originally aired on - THE HISTORY CHANNEL, the episode of the series MODERN MARVELS entitled "Mad Electricity" travels inside of Tesla's brilliant mind to examine some of his many discoveries and patents and provide a brief window into his dazzling thought processes. Subtopics include: the now-global standard of alternating electrical current (AC), first employed by Tesla at Niagara Falls in 1893; a site on Long Island sound where Tesla constructed an enormous tower that he hoped would wirelessly power the entire world; Tesla's early advances with solar and geothermal power; and much more. The program draws on interviews with historians, demonstrations of Tesla's inventions, and much more.
