Product Description:

Join host Hunter Ellis as he explores how President John F. Kennedy used an aircraft originally designed for photo reconnaissance to diffuse the Cuban Missile Crisis and avert a potential nuclear holocaust. It was the fall of 1962. Upon discovering that the Soviet Union had installed nuclear missiles in Cuba with the capability of reaching the United States, President Kennedy sensed that the Cold War was fast heating up and that the situation must be handled with the utmost care. The RF-8 Crusader was the most technologically advanced photo reconnaissance aircraft of the era. By using the RF-8 to gather the intelligence needed to confront Soviet leaders, the president narrowly diffused international tensions and paved the way for dialogue between the world's two great superpowers. Interviews with respected historians, a former KGB general, and an RF-8 pilot who took to the skies during that fateful October offer compelling new insight into one of the tensest moments in modern history.
