By using the RF-8 to gather the intelligence needed to confront Soviet leaders, the president narrowly diffused international tensions and paved the way for dialogue between the world's two great superpowers. Interviews with respected historians, a former KGB general, and an RF-8 pilot who took to the skies during that fateful October offer compelling new insight into one of the tensest moments in modern history.
