Her last album before signing to Motown in 1965, LIVIN' END captures Barbara McNair in full pop-standard mode. Her protean vocals ranges from sultry (the suggestive "Wang Wang Blues") to brassy("Don't Rain on my Parade") to playful ("So Long, Dearie"); the ease with which she switches from voice to voice hints at the rich acting career that she would eventually pursue in the later 1960s and '70s.
