Set in San Francisco, this psychological thriller pits a smart and determined psychiatrist (Richard Gere) against two beautiful, inscrutable, and potentially dangerous sisters (Uma Thurman and Kim Basinger). After soliciting the help of a patient's older sister in order to help him understand her past, he begins an illicit affair that lures him into treacherous waters. The resulting triangle explodes into murder, a trial, and numerous double-crosses.
