Description by OLDIES.com:

The critic Lou Sidran wrote, "He was the singer in the night, the voice that came and magically involved you, touching nerves of special sensitivity." Teenage girls didn't scream or swoon at the romantic ballads of Eddy Howard. They sighed - audibly - at his portraits-in-sound of heart-to-heart bliss.

Eddy Howard's Columbia material has always been the most sought after by collectors. Here are his 25 best sides for the label, including the very first made with his own orchestra. As a bonus, there are two tracks cut for (but never actually issued as) Columbia singles. 1941's "I Don't Know Why" finally saw the light of day eight years later as Harmony 1066. As for 1942's "Oh! How I Hate To Get Up In The Morning," it had to wait more than half a century - until its first-time release on this CD.

Tracks:

  • 1.Where Was I?
  • 2.Moments In The Moonlight
  • 3.The Nearness Of You
  • 4.Orchids For Remembrance

Product Description:

Personnel: Eddy Howard (vocals); The Glee Club (vocals).
Liner Note Author: Gary Theroux.
Recording information: 03/29/1940-01/21/1942.
The Best of Eddy Howard is a single-disc, 25-track overview of his romantic pop hits recorded in the late 1940s. Among the standards interpreted by the vocalist are "The Nearness of You," "How Deep Is the Ocean?" "Stardust," and "I Got It Bad (And That Ain't Good)." While this is a decent sampler, it omits too many hits. The Best of Eddy Howard: The Mercury Years is the better purchase and contains "To Each His Own," "(I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons," and "My Adobe Hacienda." ~ Al Campbell
