"[MURDER A LA MOD is] unmistakably a De Palma film through and through...with subject matter both suspenseful and recursive..."
A brutal, bloody early horror flick from the legendary Brian de Palma, MURDER A LA MOD was released in just one New York City theater in 1968. It's easy to see why the dark story of a woman who tries with disastrous results to help her seedy porn-star boyfriend didn't have massive appeal in Middle America, but fans of the director, and the genre, should be fascinated. Even then, de Palma was paying homage to Hitchcock, and this movie evokes PSYCHO in several different scenes.
Funny and strange, Larry Moyer's THE MOVING FINGER tells the story of a group of beatniks who find an injured thief and $90,000 in a coffeehouse basement, opening the door to all kinds of looks at the dark side of 1950s counterculture.
