Known primarily for his postmodern pop music, former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne stretches his wings with the score to the hit HBO series BIG LOVE, a collection of emotion-filled character themes and story motifs from the show's second season. Inspired by the classic scores of Bernard Herrmann and Nino Rota, Byrne pays homage to his musical heroes with a range of instrumentation, including guitars, flugelhorns, violins, and synthesizers. In keeping with the show's theme--that of a man and his polygamist Mormon family adapting to the neighborhood and world around them--many of Byrne's pieces are based on traditional Mormon hymns. BIG LOVE: HYMNAL represents Byrne's fourth outing into the world of film and television scoring. Included on the disc are expanded cues, unused pieces of score, and a haunting rendition of the Elvis Presley classic "Blue Hawaii".
