Description by OLDIES.com:

The Turbans, one of Philadelphia's premier groups, formed in 1953. From Downtown Philly (around Bainbridge and South Street), they were kids who hung out together and had gone to the same schools. Their hit, "When You Dance" hit #3 on the R&B charts in 1955, and stayed on the Pop charts for about five months. This audio CD features eighteen tracks they recorded for Al Silver's Herald Records during the mid to late 1950s. All tracks have been digitally remastered from the original tapes, and the release includes two separate takes of "Farewell to Arms" and an outtake of "Bye and Bye."

Tracks:

  • 1.When You Dance
  • 2.Congratulations
  • 3.Sister Sookey
  • 4.Bye And Bye
  • 5.I Am Lonely
  • 6.Farewell To Arms (Take 1)
  • 7.Miss Thing
  • 8.Let Me Show You Around My Heart
  • 9.I'm Nobody's
  • 10.It Was A Night Like This
  • 11.All Of My Heart
  • 12.The Wadda Do
  • 13.Valley Of Love
  • 14.Farewell To Arms (Take 3)
  • 15.B.I.N.G.O.

Product Description:

The Turbans are known primarily for their 1955 recording of the R&B classic "When You Dance." While it was the only national hit the group would have, they recorded numerous tunes of similar quality. The first volume of The Complete Herald Recordings features 18 mid-to-late-'50s tracks recorded for Al Silver's Herald Records. By utilizing the master tapes, the crisp harmonies of the group are crystal clear, especially on regional hits like "Sister Sookey," "Miss Thing," and their final release for Herald, "Congratulations." Dedicated fans of R&B should note the inclusion of two separate takes of "Farewell to Arms" and an outtake of "Bye and Bye." ~ Al Campbell
