Struggling Brooklyn actor Jimmy O' Connor (Jim Stanek) wants nothing more than to get out of the city and steer clear of the criminal behavior that his friend Tommy Devito (Patrick Newall) fell into. When Broadway director Helen Manners (Olympia Dukakis) offers him a part in a Broadway play, it looks like Jimmy finally has a big break. But when he witnesses psychopathic gangster Nunzio (Joseph Lyle Taylor) committing a murder, it looks like Jimmy may have trouble getting out of Brooklyn alive.
