From 1952-'56, Dick Powell joined fellow Hollywood luminaries Ida Lupino, Charles Boyer, and David Niven in "Four Star Playhouse" (also known as "Star Performance"), an anthology series in which each actor took the lead role on a weekly basis. The series, which ran on CBS, earned 14 Emmy nominations during its run.
The Room (1954): An idealistic young doctor attempts to bring modern medicine to a remote Mexican village, but instead finds a cult of superstition and suspicion.
A Study In Panic (1955): A columnist who writes an article mocking men who panicked in a blazing building, soon comes to regret it.
The Test (1955): A test pilot must put a supersonic fighter through its paces at 30,000 feet while worried to distraction that his 6 year-old daughter may have contracted a fatal disease.
Autumn Carousel (1956): A world-weary writer, who has been churning out junk for TV, meets a young girl on the long train ride home from Manhattan, and discovers a chance for redemption.
