Hungarian filmmaker Bela Tarr presents a portrait of life in Budapest circa 1981 with THE OUTSIDER. Ostensibly following a man as he drifts through life consuming alcohol, dancing, and listening to music, the film is a subtle meditation on the aimlessness of life. The question of what to do when life presents you with very few opportunities to find your true calling forms the central core of Tarr's movie, and he spins an alluring tale around it.
