"[The collection] consists of three extraordinary features and several short films, which all fiercely resist being reduced to a single thesis statement."
The work of boundary-pushing director Johan van der Keuken is ably represented in THE COMPLETE COLLECTION, VOL. 1, a three-disc box set. By blending documentary-style reportage with fictional techniques, van der Keuken achieves startling effects. Among the subjects featured in the nine films included are international banking, a study of European faces, and a portrait of a Dutch painter and poet.
