To try to please his parents, Wieland gives up his gay disco lifestyle and takes up the healthier world of sports. He becomes a sprinter, like his father was, and plays the role of a straight young man. His mother is very eager to see him succeed and urges Wieland to continually try harder. He befriends Brigitte, a shotputter, and takes a sudden passionate liking to the Valkyrian girl. This awakens in him an aspiration for the championship. Meanwhile, Wieland is being manipulated by a group of real-estate speculators who are interested in the stadium. The Sprinter rises to undreamed of heights, but in the spirit of Christoph Boll's black comedy, meets a sad end.
