Sight and Sound - 10/01/2008
"[T]he film's simple, lunatic conceit is intriguing, and Wymark in particular wrings his exposition-heavy scenes for every last drop of dramatic juice."
When scientists a hundred years in the future discover a "duplicate" Earth on the other side of the sun, they are determined to find out what this new world is like, and set up an expedition to reach the new planet.
In a futuristic world, the Western Nations of the Earth secretly launch a space rocket to explore a mysterious planet revolving around the sun. The flight appears to run smoothly until a premature crash-landing forces the astronauts out of their chemically-induced sleep. Awake and disoriented, the astronauts attempt to complete their exploration, and are shocked to discover that this strange planet could be the Earth's mirror image -- they even find their own doubles. But when they return home, what they find is even worse....
