Product Description:

A visually stunning and elaborate Yakuza (gangster) film set in the late 1920's. While the Yakuza of the 20's still dressed in robes and carried swords, and the film is reminiscent of the world of the samurai, there is an occasional bowler hat or bit of newsreel film to remind the viewer that we are in the changing world of 20th century Japan.

At the dawn of the Showa Era, the new Emperor has granted amnesty to almost 400 prisoners. One of those men, Seiji (Nakadai), formally a henchmen for one of Japan's toughest gangs, must now cope with the fact that his former boss is dead and the power shift has created new conspiracies.
