The concept behind Eh, Paisano! 100% Italian-American Classics -- namely, 18 tracks of pop standards and Italian songs from the '50s and '60s, sung by crooners like Dean Martin, Louis Prima, and Lou Monte -- may be a little cutesy, but it works surprisingly well. Even with tracks by pop acts like Jay & the Americans and Connie Francis, the album is a focused, if occasionally campy, collection of classics like "Volare," "That's Amore," and "Eh Cumpari." It may be designed to appeal to the kitsch-addled hipsters of the '90s cocktail nation, but the music on Eh, Paisano! is so strong, such quibbles don't matter -- it's one of the most enjoyable collections of mainstream pop assembled in the mid-'90s. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
