Recorded between 1964 & 1978. Includes liner notes by Willard Jenkins.
Tex was one of the best and most versatile of Southern soul singers, one of the few who was able to survive into the disco era without really changing his style. This typically excellent Rhino anthology serves up all his most important work, from his breakthrough 1964 hit "Hold What You've Got" (Tex sings only the choruses, making it one of the very first rap records) to his typically rowdy 1976 "Ain't Gonna Bump No More (With No Big Fat Woman)." In fact, the only reason to fault this album is that it doesn't come with a video - specifically, a video of Joe doing his trademark stage move, rocking the microphone stand back and forth with his foot.
