Like a standup-comedy equivalent of the BACK TO BACK music pairings that split greatest hits from two related bands, TWO OF A KIND contains bits by both Red Foxx and burlesque-cum-LAUGH-IN great Pigmeat Markham. The audio can occasionally be rough, but fortunately, so are the performances. Foxx's first half teems with the controversial, topical humor (mostly concerning race and sex) that influenced Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy, while Markham's several tracks are more performative, establishing social commentary through characters. The album as a whole is a marriage of convenience, but it's awfully hard to divorce yourself from these two raunchy trailblazers.
