Rumor had it that Atlantic (King's X label at the time) put pressure on the group to produce a "hit" with their sixth album overall, 1996's EAR CANDY. While a hit was never hatched, the album was another inspired effort. The band's vocal harmonies and hard rock riffs are outstanding on such cuts as "The Train," "(Thinking and Wondering) What I'm Gonna Do," "A Box," and "Looking for Love." EAR CANDY turned out to be their final studio album for Atlantic, as they moved on to Metal Blade for TAPE HEAD two years later.
Entertainment Weekly - 6/14/96, p.60
Rating: A-Q - 8/96, p.121
3 Stars - Good - "...EAR CANDY still has power in places but the onus here is taken by melody and harmony,...adding some world music, heading off way beyond their driving, minimalistic beginnings....King's X offer some finely appointed powerpop..."
