This is part of THE AMERICAN EXPLORER Series.
Meat and potatoes zydeco, and infectious as can be, from one of the genre's pioneers. Most of the songs here are up-tempo shuffles, making it perfectly clear that this is party music at heart, but there's more variety than you'd expect. "Keep Your Dress Tail Down," for example, is a Cajun twelve-bar blues excursion, while "Gilton" and "Bernadette," which Chavis renders solo, are obviously out of an older French folk tradition. Chavis also gets off the amusingly self-referential "Don't Worry About Boozoo" ("'Cause you know he ain't no fool," we're informed) and the cherry on the top of all this is a nice live-sounding production job by NRBQ's Terry Adams.

Rolling Stone - 8/21/91
4 Stars - Excellent "...pick of the litter (of Explorer series)...definitive performance from one of the few remaining links to the original roots of zydeco..."
