One of reggae's most inventive mix engineers, Scientist (born Overton Brown) rose to prominence in the early '80s, continuing the dubwise innovation of his mentors King Tubby and Prince Jammy. The preferred engineer of producer Henry "Junjo" Lawes, Scientist's aggressively experimental mixing style contrasted with the bouncy sing-jay vocals of the era--a blend of singing and toasting made popular by artists such as Barrington Levy, Linval Thompson, and Jah Thomas.

This reissue collects both volumes of DUB LANDING, the second of which features mixes by Prince Jammy. One of the last great albums of the classic era of dub, this set from 1981 contains Scientist's trademark cavernous echo effects--used to particularly devastating results on a mix of Al Campbell's powerful "Unfaithful Children." Rounding out this set are solid performances from the Roots Radics, especially the off-time percussion accents of Sky Juice Blake and Skully--which in Scientist's expert hands flit around like video game sound effects.
