As a composer, pianist, arranger, producer, record label executive, and bandleader, Dave Grusin's imprint on popular music cannot be overestimated. This original 1964 Columbia album predates Grusin's noted soundtrack work, and it focuses on his terrific ensemble playing and composing. The twelve-bar blues number "Kaleidoscope," the gospel blues song "What's This," and Thelonious Monk's "Blue Monk" are among the highlights of this wonderfully diverse album.
