Description by OLDIES.com:
Tony Curtis stars as Lepke, head of Murder Inc., the syndicate that spattered the headlines of the day with blood. From his rough-and-toumble East Side childhood to his rise in the drug trade to his 1944 execution at Sing Sing, Lepke depicts with brute force the criminal career of a man with more than 60 murders to his credit.
A fine dramatization of the life and times of Louis "Lepke" Buchalter, the 1930's gangster who led Murder, Inc., an association of professional killers. Milton Berle makes a rare, albeit short, appearance in a dramatic role as Lepke's father-in-law.
This film biography of gangster Louis "Lepke" Buchalter (who headed the notorious syndicate known as "Murder Inc.") provides insight into the Jewish underworld of the 1930s. Lepke's life of crime can be traced back as far as his childhood, when he was a liar and a thief. He grew up to become a troubled juvenile delinquent, and later a respected, feared gangster, whose contemporaries included Lucky Luciano, Legs Diamond and Dutch Schultz. However, Lepke learned the hard way that crime does not pay -- and can lead to death...
