Spanish-born Xavier Cugat, also known as "Cugie," was a world-renowned musician, artist, and bon vivant who is considered one of the pioneers of Latin-American dance music. His band was the house band at New York's Waldorf Astoria hotel for 16 years, and many Americans got their first taste of Latin music through Cugat. Among the rhythmic gems on this CD are "Begin The Beguine," "La Paloma," and "Mambo at the Waldorf."
